What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art based on grappling and ground fighting techniques. The aim of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is to control and subdue a larger and stronger opponent through the use of superior techniques, leverage, and body mechanics. With an emphasis on grappling rather than striking, students are able to practice with varying levels of intensity, without the threat of serious injuries which can occur more often in martial arts focused on punching and kicking.
Instructor Rob Ables:
Rob Ables is a 3rd degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Marcelo Garcia. He owns Marcelo Garcia of Dallas and has been training in jiu jitsu for 19 years. Prior to starting his Jiu-Jitsu journey, he earned a black belt in Karate. He teaches all of the advanced classes and can often be found in the beginners classes and kids classes.
Rob's teaching is as captivating as it is educational. He entertains as he demonstrates nuanced details in technique, ensuring that every class is fun as well as instructional.
Also, watch for the occasional spot-on solo pantomime of a move with no one to show it against... seriously, he's so technical he can show you the moves with the air with precision!
Congratulations Professor Ables on your third stripe
awarded by Marcelo Garcia in 2015!
